Frequently Asked Questions
Is Water Filters R Us, Inc. the same company as OrderWaterFilters.com?
Yes, Water Filters R Us, Inc. owns and operates OrderWaterFilters.com, which is our online store.
Will OrderWaterFilters.com's maintenance-free water filters work with the water from my well or spring?
Yes, our maintenance-free water filters will remove sediment, and improve the taste and odor from well or spring water. Due to the varying amount of sediment found in well or spring water, the filters will have a usable life approximately 70% of that stated for municipal water supplies. For example, for the average family of four, the model 2400 maintenance free water filter will last three and half years filtering well or spring water, but five years filtering municipal water.

Why does a replacement filter for the shower water filters, which have a capacity of 30,000 gallons of water, only last 18 months?
The average family of four will use approximately 30,000 gallons of water in 18 months of showering.
How do I know when the usable life is over for a maintenance-free water filter?
OrderWaterFilters.com's maintenance-free water filters are filled with granular KDF, a combination of zinc and copper. When this material is filled with sediment and/or chlorine, the output of water through the water filter will be demonstrably reduced. It is then that the filter should be removed from service and discarded.

Will I require the services of a plumber to install these water filters?
Almost all the filters shown on the OrderWaterFilters.com website are easily consumer installable. They come with instructions and all the parts necessary for hooking up to the most common water supply lines. In most cases, no tools are needed. What if my water supply has other contaminants beyond sediment, chlorine and bad odor?
OrderWaterFilters.com has a maintenance-free a solution for the most common water supply problem, taste and odor. We do not believe in selling more filter capability than your water supply requires.
If your water contains contaminants, such as lead, Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and the volatile organic chemicals (VOC's) such as benzene, bromodichloromethane, bromoform, carbon tetrachloride, chlorodibromomethane, chloroform, ethylene dibromide (EDB), lindane, heptachlor, I,I,I-trichloroetnane, trihalomethanes, etc., they all can be removed from the water using our model P2901rc replacement cartridge.
This filter has a water purification capacity of 1,000 gallons; for a family of four, that is a usable life of one year, depending on water quality and usage. We also have filters to remove arsenic from drinking water. There is no water quality issue for which we do not have a solution.

How do I know what contaminants my water contains?
If your drinking water source is provided to you through a municipality, you can feel comfortable that your water is free from dangerous contaminants, usually though chlorination. If your water source is your own well or spring, the only way to be sure is to have your water tested.
Does OrderWaterFilters.Com provide water testing service? If not, where can I get my water tested?
We do not provide water testing. It is our opinion that "do it yourself'' water test kits, many promoted online, are not accurate, and we do not recommend their use. We believe that a reliable water test can only be provided by a professional.
State and local health or environmental departments often test for bacteria and nitrates. Health or environmental departments, or county governments should have a list of the state-certified (licensed) laboratories in your area that test for a variety of substances.
Others who may be able to provide you with this listing include:
- Your State Laboratory Certification Officer
- EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline: 1-800-426-4791
- EPA's Web site

How do I know which OrderWaterFilters.Com filter to buy?
If your water is supplied by a municipal authority, any of our maintenance-free water filters will be fine. Our maintenance-free water filters are also suitable if you get your water from a well or spring, and over time, it has been found to be potable, safe water, though have an unpleasant taste, odor, or contains some sediment.
If, however your source has been found to contain lead, or any of the other contaminants and volatile organic compounds listed under our replaceable cartridge filters, you should most definitely use a replaceable cartridge filter. Moreover, if arsenic, in toxic levels, has been found in your water source, then a filter which can remove arsenic is necessary.
What is KDF and why is it important?
KDF is a combination of zinc and copper granules. A process known as Oxygen-Reduction causes a reaction between these two metals which results in the removal of heavy metals and chorine. According to KDF Fluid Treatment, Inc., KDF also retards bacteria 10 times better than conventional carbon filters, greatly extending the life of a water purification filter.

What is a diverter, and how does it work? The diverter attaches to the end of your water faucet. It has a pull switch on it so that in one position, the water flows directly from the water supply, for washing dishes, for example, and in the other position it gets processed by the filter to result in clear, delicious, drinkable water. Aren't faucet mount water filters easier to use, and less cumbersome? Why don't you sell one?
Faucet mount water filters require replacement cartridges every 100, or so gallons processed, just like pitcher filters. That gets expensive since the average family of four uses 1,000 gallons of drinkable water a year. The countertop water filters supplied by OrderWaterFilters.com produce up to 10 years worth of drinkable water, and take up a very small footprint on the counter. And the diverter on the end of the faucet is far less intrusive then any faucet mount water filter.
